Habitat for Humanity of Greater Jonesboro is a locally run affiliate of Habitat
for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates
houses in partnership with volunteers and families in need, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. The houses
then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor,
and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest
hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments
go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
Habitat
for Humanity International (HFHI) , based in Americus, Georgia, is an ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to
eliminating poverty housing. In 2005, Habitat built its 200,000th house, and more than one million people are living in Habitat
homes they helped build and are buying through no-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Habitat is a worldwide, grass-roots movement
with more than 2,100 affiliates in 100 countries, including all 50 states of the United States. For information on international
