How your faith community can become involved with Habitat for Humanity?

One of the most appealing aspects of working with Habitat for Humanity is that building a house provides tangible opportunity to live out your faith. Giving your time and talents makes faith come alive. Strong feelings of community develop as people work together to plan and build a Habitat house, new friendships are created within the congregation and within the community. When the house is finished volunteers and homeowners feel a great sense of pride and connection with one another.

The Economics of Jesus tell us that:

- God blesses what we offer and turns it into the miraculous

- God expects us to share our resources

- Charge no interest and seek no profit

- Grace and love abound for all, equally

The Theology of the Hammer:

- It brings diverse groups of people together for a common purpose

- People build together to end poverty housing

- The hammer is an instrument for putting faith into action

Habitat for Humanity is founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.  The work of Habitat for Humanity is driven by the desire to give tangible expression to the love of God through the work of eliminating poverty housing.  Habitat provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action, bringing diverse groups of people together to make affordable housing and better communities a reality for everyone.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the Christian principles of responding tangibly to people in need. As Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, states in his book Creating a Habitat for Humanity, “…faith teaches followers to repair the world, and followers of other faiths are urged to care for the poor as well. For some people compassionate response is not a matter of faith. It is simply the right thing to do, or it is part of the overall mind-set of an individual.”

We welcome and encourage all people to join us in our work to eliminate poverty housing from the world.

Habitat is a partnership founded on common ground -- bridging theological differences by putting love into action.  Everyone can use the hammer as an interest to manifest God's love.  Habitat founder Miller Fuller called this concept "The theology of the hammer," explaining, "We may disagree on all sorts of other things........but we can all agree on the idea of building homes with God's people in need."  Habitat for Humanity welcomes all people to build in partnership.

Habitat is about tearing down walls and building bridges.
It is about bringing hope and transforming lives.
It is about serving God by serving others.

Putting your FAITH IN ACTION is rewarding, exciting and meaningful!

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Jonesboro offers faith groups the opportunity to put their "Faith In Action",  This partnership allows a group to make a financial contribution to help build a Habitat home.  The Faith In Action program is a great tangible way to demonstrate the love of God, through your participation, for people in need.  It is an excellent outreach ministry and also great for team-building.

Great for Mission Outreach Groups, Teen Youth Groups, Men/Women's Groups and the entire congregation!

Please join us! Opportunities for members of your faith community to engage with Habitat of Greater Jonesboro are available on and off the construction site.
